Choosing the right exterior paint color can be a daunting task, get it wrong and you may have to live with your mistake. So when making your decision there are a lot of things to consider, you must take in to consideration your surroundings, for instance what color is you roof? It may seem silly but if you pick a color that clashes with your roof your house will look awful.

It is a good idea to look around the neighborhood and especially your neighbor’s house as you don’t want the same color, however there is nothing wrong with finding inspiration from a house a few blocks away, also when choosing a color it is wise to look at the features on your house that won’t be painted like vinyl windows or a natural wood door as the color you pick will have to work well with those features.

Now you may want to choose more than one color, personally I would use three at the most, one being the main body color and one or two more for the accents like moldings, shutters, doors or columns, be aware though too many colors does not look good and too few and your house may appear dull and boring.

Finally the size of your house could influence your choice of color because a lighter color will make your house appear larger than it actually is and a darker color will make it appear smaller and may be best used as an accent color
